Tarot

My Tarot lineage is perhaps a bit odd as I have been involved with the Tarot since I was a child, we had the 1JJ Swiss Tarot in our house growing up, and I always enjoyed playing with it and learning about the imagery. Later when I went to college I on a whim bought the Tarot Nova, aka Tarot the Complete Kit, by Dennis Fairchild, and spent a fair amount of time learning from the LWB this RWS clone style. However I stopped using the Tarot for around a decade and so only recently began to reacquaint myself, and in doing so I’d like to acknowledge those whose own work with the Tarot has inspired me, and those teachers whose courses I have taken.

Beth Maiden

Beth Maiden, is a legend within the contemporary Tarot world, running the Little Red Tarot shop, and former blog community, as well as writing an excellent tarot column called Fools Journey, on autostraddle.

She developed the well respected “Alternative Tarot Course”, and I was lucky enough to take the course, through which I have learnt so much about a whole variety of aspects of the Tarot and reading; especially developing a lot more confidence in my abilities.

This is the most significant course I have taken, and would be the key to my lineage. Beth also wrote and published the book “All Our Stories: The Little Red Tarot Guidebook”, which is fab.

adrienne maree brown

adrienne maree brown, is a social justice movement facilitator, and much more besides, I first learnt about adrienne from her sister Autumn who I met in New York City when she was part of the Rock Dove Collective, I’ve been following both their work since. MovementTarot draw on Instagram has been a huge influence. Since the 2016 election adrienne has been posting on instagram using the hashtags #resistancetarot, #movementtarot , and has been consulting the tarot to ask the universe for guidance for movements for justice for people and the planet. I’ve been inspired by following these readings, and those on her podcast.

Sabrina Scott (image from Peeps Magazine)

Sabrina Scott, spiritual teacher and author, wrote the well-known and well-regarded graphic novel Witchbody described as “a rambling & poetic auto-ethnography of western occult magic as a pathway for environmental learning & advocacy”.

I took Sabrina’s ‘Reading Tarot more Intuitively’ course, which I found useful mainly as it supported the reading method I have been developing, and gave me a few ideas and tricks.

Rachel Pollack, is author of 78 Degrees of Wisdom, as well as massive collection of other books (not all about the Tarot).

Although its “only” a book, I have to list this book as part of my lineage as it’s my ‘go-to’ book for thoughts on cards, and I do a regularly single card reading in which I pull a card simply to see what this book says about it.
